Guidance and directories

There is a load of really great and easy to digest information written by Rachel Dobbs about all things to do with funding on her website here.

The Paul Hamlyn Foundation have a pretty comprehensive funding directory: http://fundingforartists.org.uk/artists/

as do Grants Online: https://www.grantsonline.org.uk/news/arts-culture-and-heritage/

Acava have a regularly updated resources webpage: https://www.acava.org/resources-artists/

ArtsAdmin also have some great resources and support for artists working in performance: https://www.artsadmin.co.uk/for-artists/

General funding

The Arts Council England have Project Grants which are open for individuals and organisations to apply for funding to realise creative projects especially those engaging with communities or collaborating with people in some way. They give out up to £30,000 at the lower band of funding and also provide support if you have an access need (like neurodiversity, a disability or long term illness) for someone else to help you write the application.

Arts Council England also offer Developing Your Creative Practice Grants which are for development opportunities that you need the funding to be able to access, such as mentoring, courses, residencies, equipment. They are up to £10,000 and again you can get support to make the application if you need it, just email them at enquiries@artscouncil.org.uk and they will tell you what to do.

The National Lottery Community Grants are good ones to look at for community projects. For those working on community arts projects it’s a good idea to look on your local council website and/or contact them to see what funding they have for your area, often this can be larger pots and more specific to your aims.

For those in Scotland there is of course Creative Scotland that has a mix of regular and targeted funding grants you can apply for.

Paul Hamlyn Foundation fund a breadth of cultural art forms.

The BFI are a good one to look at for films and TV ideas.

For music projects: check out PRS Foundation and Youth Music’s Funding, Opportunities Board as well as their Resources Page. Help Musicians also have some handy tips on getting support for musical projects.

And the Do it Differently Fund also helps musicians develop their work.
